PLACES: DAY TRIPPING

CAPTURING THE DAY WITH MY FAVOURITE TOOLS: A LITTLE POLAS AND A MOLESKIN- AN EXCURSION A BOAT GLIDE AWAY, TO LANTAU ISLAND.
A TINY FISHING VILLAGE WHERE HOUSES GROW OUT OF THE WATER ON STILTS, AND GRANDMOTHERS SIT PEELING EGG YOLKS AND DRYING THEM, SALTED IN THE SUN, FORMING BRIGHT ORANGE MANDALAS. THE SMELL OF FISH HUNG IN THE AIR (AN ISLAND UNAFRAID OF A LITTLE STENCH) AND THE BIKE BELLS SANG AND SANG. WE'LL JUST CALL IT THE CAPRI OF HONG KONG: A RICH RESOURCE OF CHINESE BOHEMIA, AND DELIGHTFUL DILAPIDATION. I HAD MY PICTURE TAKEN UNDER A MANGO TREE, AND THEN SKETCHED THE BOATS IN MY BOOK.
